How The Grinch Stole Christmas! -Dr. Seuss

how-the-grinchHow the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss – It would not be Christmas without Grinch. Grinch will definitely make you laugh. Hopefully children realize that Christmas is not about presents because Christmas comes even after Grinch “steals it”. Plus, at the end, even the Grinch softens up and his heart grows three sizes.  Both the movie and the book are great.

Owen – by Kevin Henkes

Owen – by Henkes

owenEvery child who had or has a favorite toy or a blanket will love this story. And every parent whose child had a favorite toy or blanket will relate to Owen’’s parents being criticized by the Mrs. Tweezers. “Haven’t you heard of a blanket fairy?” she asked. This is a charming story about Owen and his fuzzy yellow blanket that went wherever Owen went. He carried it, wore it, dragged it, sucked it, hugged it, twisted it… Through this funny story, Kevin Henkes brings to life understanding of the comfort provided by the favorite toy  and child’s deep attachment to it. This is another great story by Henkes! Authentic and hilarious!

Bob Books – Great First Reads

bobBob Books series might be the best first books series. The books are small, stories are short and repetitive, which makes it for a great way to build word recognition and vocabulary. To make it even more fun for the little ones, you can have your child color their little Bob Books. The Bob Books series starts with easy three letter words and it slowly through the series progresses to more complex words. For children in Kindergarten and First Grade, this is the perfect reading material for independent reading practice.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Eric Carle

the-very-hungryThe Very Hungry Caterpillar – by Eric Carle

Your child will love this book and ask you to read it over and over and over. Finally, he/she will memorize the book and then he/she will pretend to read it to you. And that is great! Encourage and tell your child what a good job he/she is doing in “reading”. Pretend reading is one of the major milestones of reading process. But back to the book now. This is a story about a caterpillar who becomes a butterfly. It’s a story about changes that take place in the life of a catterpillar/butterfly. It also teaches children days of the month, along with beautiful illustrations of all the foods kids just love, such as, lollipops, cake, and so on. Of course, after eating too much junk food, the caterpillar has a stomach ache, which is another one, any child can probably relate to :) . Buy it, get it from the library, read it, and enjoy it.
